Margao Municipal Library
  • The Margao Municipal Library was established in the year 1914 . The library is run and managed by Margao Municipal Council with their own funds.
  • The person who are normally resident of goa are eligible to become a registered member of municipal library with a privilege  to borrow books . The library has treasured books one must be a member to avail this benefits.
  • Library has the total collection of around 25000 books including children books to cater the need of all ages group . Around 1700 members are taking advantage of this library .
  • Newspaper section is open to all and is free , Since it is on the ground floor senior citizen and physically disabled person can also take the benefits of reading  newspaper at any time between 8 am to 8 pm on  all working days.
  • Library subscribes 22 daily newspapers , 34 most popular magazines and more than 100 Diwali issues every year.
  • Library has a very good collection of Braille books donated by , Saksham organization 
  • The library houses reference section offering wide scope for research work and assignments for students . It contains variety of reference books including  dictionaries Encyclopedias , gazettes from 1941 onwards , books no history of Goa and India .  It also includes books for competitive exams and also preparatory series of standard 10th and 12th Goa and CBSE board .
  • This library has the separate Konkani section with a  good collection of books of Goan writers .
  • Also separate children section attracts the children of all ages group between 3 years to 12 years .
  • Library has rare book section consisting of more than 1500 treasured trove of Portuguese books in the same premises.
  • The library has established a well automated library system with the help of “e – Granthalaya ” software developed by NIC.
  • The Margao Municipal Library is a cultural marvel that has played a pivotal role in the intellectual and cultural life of  Margao.
